HOW TO EARN GOD’S COMPANIONSHIP

TOPIC: HOW TO EARN GOD’S COMPANIONSHIP

TEXT: Gen 5:21-24

MEMORY VERSE: “By faith Enoch was translate that he should not see death, and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had his testimony, that he pleased God” (Hebrews 11:5)

CENTRAL TRUTH: It is purity that qualifies a person both for heaven and the service of God.

INTRODUCTION

Enoch stood out as one of the few men in the scriptures who walk consistently with God His life on earth was brief compared with other men of his generation but he was the most remarkable and meaningful. Like all over men of his time, he was a family man, lived in a defiled and polluted world but he was like a lily that blossomed at the riverside. In spite of all that surrounded him, his affection was centered on heaven. Groaning in the spirit of the evil in his days, the spirit made him to prophesy the judgment of God upon Sinners (Jude 14-15).

POINT 1

CONDITION FOR WALKING WITH GOD

(Gen. 3:1-13; 12:1; 17:1 Rom. 8:6-8; Eph. 4:22-24; 2Cor. 5:15,17,19.

To walk with an individual denotes some degrees of friendship: there must be some common points of interest, a similarity of disposition, nature, views, goals, feelings and tastes. Two cannot walk together except they be agreed (Amos 3:3) The presence of sin in man creates a barrier in establishing a relationship with the infinite God, (Is. 59:2). Repentance from every sin and exercising faith are required before we can start a walk with God. Total devotion to Him is also paramount. This is an evidence of a loving and grateful heart.

POINT 2

ENOCH’S WALK WITH GOD

Gen.5:22-24; Heb. 11:5; 1Thess. 2:9-10; John. 17:16; 1Cor. 7:29-31

The distinguishing characteristics of Enoch’s life were two folds; he walk with God, and pleased God. He had no malice, no anger, no covetousness, no pride, no love of the world, no hatred, and no inward and outward sin. He had a perfect love for God and man. God demands more honesty; He demands holiness of life from his children. Only then can we be vessels unto honor, sanctified and meet for the Master’s use. (Note the central truth). Enoch’s purity made him fit for heaven. Ps. 24:3-4; (Note 1John 3:8-10). Our gifts, position, knowledge of the scriptures, power etc, do not qualify us for heaven. It is a perfect walk with God, nothing else, nothing less.

POINT 3

MAINTAINING OUR WALK WITH GOD
Heb. 10:22-23; Col. 1:21-23,28; 2Cor. 6:14-18.

God is not only able to make us experience holiness of life (1Thess. 5:23, 24; Luke 1:74-27). He is also able to make us till the coming of the Lord subject to the following conditions:

  •  Renew your consecration daily (Gal. 2:20; Phil. 3:13-15).
  •  Meditate on God’s word daily, and promptly obey the truth (Ps. 1:1-2;19:60).
  •  Attend the fellowship of Gods people (Heb.10:25; Col. 2:18-233).
  •  Never compromise your faith; contend for the truth (Jude 3; Jn. 10:11
  •  Daily examine yourself in the mirror of God’s word (2Cor. 13:5) keep away from your eyes, your ears, and your heart anything that defiles (Job. 31:1; Phil.4v8; 1 Pet. 5:8-10).
  •  Pray until you are made conformable to the image of Christ (1 Thess.5:17).
  •  Share your faith with someone (Matt. 5:16; 2Cor. 5:11). lives. God owns us: He creates us for His glory. Therefore we must daily live to glorify Him, obey Him and do His perfect will. That is how to please him. We must also be dead to the world and totally separate unto God.
To walk with God is to focus our attention on God, making Him the center of our
