UNSHAKEN CONFIDENCE IN GOD
TOPIC: UNSHAKEN CONFIDENCE IN GOD
TEXT: Romans 8:31-35
TEXT: Romans 8:31-35
MEMORY VERSE: “Nay in all things we are more
than conquerors through Him that loved us”
CENTRAL TRUTH: Our eyes must
be fixed on him who is able to keep us safe and secured.
Introduction
Our
lessen this week, climax the message of Apostle so far. The words are weighty.
The import is impressive. The verses must be the commitment, resolution and
testimony of every believer.
Point 1
the source of the saints’ confidence: Rom. 8:32-34; Isaiah 12:2-3; Ps. 112:7,8; Heb. 13:6;
Ps. 84:11
“And
who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?” (1
Peter 3:13). This question dwells on the commitment of God to keep the saints
whose character, conduct and language is Christ-like. If we world depend on the
Lord and walk according to the way of the Lord, non can harm us (Isaiah
50:7-9). The source of the saints’ confidence is the Lord who is ever near to
help. This had earlier been asserted: “Therefore now no condemnation to them
who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1).
Their faith in Christ had removed condemnation.
Their sins had been washed by the blood of the Lamb. Their guilt has been taken
away by the Lord. Jesus had been their bearer, substitute and advocate who
pleads for them before the throne of grace. As a result of fall these, the
perfect redemptive work Christ did on the cross of Calvary and their own faith
and acceptance of it, there is no condemnation for them. This is why the
Apostle exclaimed. “ who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea
rather, that is rise again, who is even at the right hand side of God, who also
maketh intercession for us” (Rom. 8:34).
With the removal of condemnation comes the
implantation of confidence – confidence to receive what-ever we desire of Him.
And whatever will be to our advantage or spiritual profit, the lord says He
will give us because we belong to Him (1 Cor:3:2-23).
Point 2
persecution and problems of saints: Rom. 8:35; 2:9-10; 3:10-12; Ps. 34:19; 132:1
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall
Tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or
sword?” (Rom. 8:35).
The Apostle here gives a catalogue of problems that
could face Christians. He is here not trying to agree to or promote the base
assertion of the ungodly minds that much of the world’s sufferings are Christianity.
But he is speaking in the affirmation to establish that help from troubles
comes only from the Lord (Isaiah 41:10).
The Lord has promised all the help and safety, but
the believer must decide and determined that he stay with the Lord to see His salvation
in the end. The agents of separation mentioned here: tribulation, distress,
persecution, famine, nakedness, peril or sword, are problems engineering by
people. Be it human or spirit agent, their in-depth involvement
notwithstanding, the thing that is sure is that the Lord will deliver His own
from them all (Psalm 34:19)
Point 3
The persuasion of a Christian:
“for I am
persuaded, that neither death, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor
things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depths, nor any other
creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ
Jesus our Lord” (Rom. 8:39).
This
is a picture of an unflinching persuasion to keep a dynamic and virile relationship
with the Lord. It is noteworthy that a person can only be persuaded “through
him that loved us” (v.37). if we always focus our attention on the love of God
and realize that the love of God is greater than all the afflictions,
bitterness, hatred and all the negative signals coming from the devil and his
demons, nothing will be able to take us away from the love of God. Cast not
away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward. And nothing
shall be able to separate you from the love of God.
