LIVING A LIFE OF VICTORY

TOPIC: LIVING A LIFE OF VICTORY

TEXT: PSALM 119:1-12

INTRODUCTION
God has not designed that believers should live defeated lives. The Christian life is meant to be exciting and fulfilling. It actually starts with the power of God sustained by the same power. “As many as received Him……gave He power” (Jn. 1:12). All through scriptures God’s purpose has been that His people live victoriously in a manner that the world around them will be challenged (1Pet. 2:9; Phil.1:27; 2:15, 16; 1Pet.3;1-5;Matt.5:13-16)
       Many have been defeated because of lack of proper understanding of God’s provision for victory (Hos.4:6; Isa. 5:13). The problem with others has been sheer neglect of God’s ordained path. All can be victorious if divine precepts are followed. There cannot be a successful Christian, without a strict adherence to scriptural principles. From our text we are considering six important ingredients for the victorious life (1) Recognition of the way (2) Respect for the word (3) Resolute in walk (4) Regular in watching (5) Resignation to His will (6) Reality in worship (7) Regular prayer.

1. RECOGNITION OF THE WAY: Psalm 119:1; Jn.14:6; Matt.7:13,14; Heb. 10:19,20; Eph.2:7,8; 2Cor.6:14-18
Victory has eluded many because of a non realization of Christianity as a distinct and unique way. How one gets into the way is definite and different from that of worldly systems. Compliance with the demands of the way means victory.

2. RESPECT FOR THE WORD: Psalm 119:2, 5, 8, 9, 11, 47, 97; 19:8; Jere.15:16;
Prov. 6:23; 30:6; Deut.12:32; Act 17:11; Rom.15:4; Matt.5:18; Isa.34:16; Amos 2:4; Matt. 4:4.

God’s word is powerful. There is guarantee of divine support as His word is sought diligently, and kept wholeheartedly. No part of God’s revelation should be allowed to fall to the ground.

3. RESOLUTE IN WALK: Psalm 119:1, 3; 57:7; 15:1-5; Gen.39:7-9; Job 31:1

Everyone should make a firm decision to be consistent in following after God. One gets only what he earnestly desires and decide for.

4. REGULAR IN WATCHING: Psalm 119:5, 10, 12; Job. 34:32; Ps. 139:23, 24;
2Cor.13:5; Luke 22:31; 14:38; 1Thess. 5:6-8

He who does not watch and walk circumspectly will get into the enemies snare unknowingly. Looking up to God for strength and guidance is essential for continuous victory. If the devil attempted on Simon’s life without his Knowledge, he can do the same today. Watch!

5. RESIGNATION TO HIS WILL: Psalm 119:3, 5, 6, 10-12; 40:8; Matt. 12:50; 26:42.

There cannot be that permanent victory until the believer accepts the totality of God’s word as his will to be conformed to. Acceptance and pursuance of that which God has revealed ensure peace and prosperity.

6. REALITY IN WORSHIP: Psalm 119:4, 7, 9, 10, and 12.

Worship of God in laid down has tremendous impact on human life. Worship should be done wholeheartedly, diligently, and with a clean life.

7. REGULAR PRAYERS: Phil.4:6, 1Thess.5:17; 1Tim.2:8.

The most important per-requisite for spiritual growth and the victorious life is regular prayer. Effective prayer requires:

a) Discipline – 1Cor. 9:27

b) Diligence – Pro. 10:4; 12:24; 22:29

c) Determination – Act 20:22-24; 1Cor. 2:2

Every sincere believer should make up his/her mind to live a victorious life.
