THE MISSION OF THE CHURCH

TOPIC: THE MISSION OF THE CHURCH

TEXT:  Matthew 28: 78-20

INTRODUCTION
The church must discover her mission on earth and place that mission at the centre of all her plans and programs so we can fulfill our purpose of existence. In a strict sense, mission is an activity of God arising out of the very nature of God. He sent the prophets to Israel He sent His Son into the world He Son sent out the Apostles, then the seventy and afterwards the Church so the mission of the Church arises from the mission of God, and is to be modeled on it {John 17:18; 20: 27). if the Christian is to understand his mission on earth, he must understand Christ's mission. First, He sends us into the world, for He was sent in to the world. Second, He came to seek, to show, to serve, to suffer, to sacrifice and to save {Luke 19: 70; 22:27," Mark 70:45). So must you, as a Christian, follow the model He has given us He sends you into the world to seek, to show, to serve, to suffer, to sacrifice and to save ( 2 Peter 2. 27; l John 2: 6, Philippians2 : 5).
It is very important for us to recover this biblical emphasis. The whole church is under obligation to obey and follow the Lord. How can we do this effectively, we shall consider our duty and responsibility under three subheadings
1. Power of a consistent life
2. Proclamation through consecrated life
3. Passion of Christlike love .

1. POWER OF A CONSISTENT LIFE - Mat. 5: 1316; Col. 4:5,6; Eph. 5:8,13; 1 Thess. 1:7 9: Acts. 4: 13, John12:9,11; Zech. 8: 21 23

Our mission embraces the double vocation to be ”the salt of the earth” and ”the light of the world”.
Salt
(i) White-pure before the world to see
(ii) Sweet not bitter good to all who taste or interact, whatever the tribe.
(iii) Creates thirst makes others desire Christ, the water of life.
(iv) Preserves from corruption
(v) Close contact necessary before it Can have good influence does good only when it comes into contact with others.
(vi) Yet it looses its usefulness and value if mixed with white sand or " “powdered chalk things looking like salt but different.
Light
(i) 1 Strength from external power
(ii) Dependent on constant oil supply
(iii) Stability of position. Stable fellowship
(iv) Sheltered from adverse wind that can blow it out
(v)  Shining in darkness showing the way to those who live or walk in darkness.
Consistent Christian living attracts others to Christ. On the other hand, empty, shallow, hypocritical life drives observing sinners away from Christ and the church (Rom. 2:21-24; Mat .23:13,15), for believers to really fulfill his mission on earth, he must first live a consistent Christian life, shine as a bright light, Show a clear example of who a converted man or woman looks like. At home, at work, in the market place, in the public, with the opposite sex anywhere, with co-tenants and neighbours, there must be no doubt in anybody’s mind that he has truly been with Christ.

2. PROCLAMATION THROUGH CONSECRATED LIPS - Mark-16:15-20 2 Cor. 5:18-20; Acts. 8:4; Ps. 68:11; Acts. 8:27-35

Evangelism is an essential part of the church’s mission. To evangelize means to bring the good news of Jesus Christ to people who have not know Christ. it is the mission of every trite believer to preach, proclaim or publish , the gospel message by all means possible. It is not enough to quietly shine as light or silently season as salt, we must openly talk about Christ.“ The lips must sound out what the life shines-forth. Remember this song of prayer and consecration: (Take my life and let it be consecrated, Lord to Thee, then, Take my lips and let them be filled with messages from Thee.)
To evangelize is to so present Christ Jesus in the power of the Holy Spirit that men shall come to put their trust in God through Him. We evangelize whenever we share the gospel of Christ with others, leading them to repent and believe on the Lord, so as to be saved. The object of evangelism is that people will respond and believe.
We can evangelize by:
1. Word of mouth to individuals and groups
2. Christian literature tracts, books, picture, e.g. heart of man, miracle papers distribution politely given out to people.
3. Cassettes -containing salvation, faith, healing, deliverance, convincing messages. The cassette can be lent out to an individual to listen to or can be heard with a group with the Christian who prays and leads the listeners to Christ at the end. We have hundreds of such cassettes available for your use.

3. PASSION OF CHRISTLIKE LOVE. Luke 19: 41-42, 2 Pet. 3:9; Philip. 2:5; 2 Cor. 5:14, 15 Rom. 9:1-3; Ps. 126:56, 1Cor. 9:16,19-22.

Jesus considered the human soul to be of great value. He had a concern for the individual soul. His concern was so real and so deep that at times the flood of tears could no longer be restrained. He, like God the Father, was not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. The message of a concerned compassionate, crucified an will bring conviction in the heart of the listeners. A concerned believer will pray every day for Witnessing opportunities. He will be in a constant attitude of prayer while presenting the message. He Will also pray for the individual's salvation after presenting him the gospel.
Our prayer today, should be:
Lord, Crucified, give me a love like Thine
Help me to win the dying souls of men, Lord, keep my heart in closest tough with Thine
And give me love, pure Calvary love.
To bring the lost to Thee.
