CENTRAL TRUTH: Prayer and praise release God's blessings and power in our lives and lead us to victory.
INTRODUCTION
God's people are not exempted from battles. These are usually spiritual, but just as real as the conflict that faced Judah from enemy armies. Sometimes, the situations confronting us appear so hopeless that our first impulse Is to surrender to fear. This would lead to certain defeat and we should turn, instead to our Lord. If we never had such test, we feel secure in our own abilities and forget that the Christian life is the walk of faith. This means believing that God will give us victory even when every circumstances indicates otherwise. It is helpful to regularly recall the past experiences when God undertook for. Trials and victories add up to experience that help us mature in the Lord. No situation or enemy Is bigger than our God. Reminding ourselves of God's greatness and praising him for who He is, will lead us to spiritual conquest. The people of Judah were enriched materially by the spoil they took from the enemy. We will be enriched spiritually as the result of every battle God wins for us. The hour of trouble will be changed for us to a time of blessing and every obstacle to a stepping stone to miracle.
1. PRAYING FOR GOD'S HELP
2 Chronicles 20:1-13
The size of the army the enemy had assembled showed their determination not only to defeat Judah but to crush them. The king recognized the crises and his response was natural; "And Jehoshaphat feared...." However, he did not allow himself to be overcome by panic, but ordered the whole kingdom to fast and pray. Seeking the Lord should be a normal part of every Christian's day. There are situations we cannot cope with strength, we should always depend on the Lord. (Prov. 3:5, 6)
The enemy matching on to Judah was mighty, but the king reminded himself as the people that God is mightier. Furthermore, He (God) is the ruler, even of the heathen. Prayer the brings victory focuses first on God, not our situation. Remember what God has promised. Gen. 12:2, 7: 15-17; 2 Chronicles 6:28-36.
2. PROMISE OF DIVINE HELP
2 Chronicles 20:14-19
God's answer came in the form of a prophetic message given by the Holy Spirit through a man name Jahaziel. We see God's assurance. "Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude". The Lord told the the location of the enemy. He reminded 'em of the past, Exo. 14:13. After that they sang as their faith was lifted up.
FAITH CAN SING THROUGH DAYS OF SORROW.
3. PRAISE FOR VICTORY
2 chronicles 20:20-30
These verses recoded the glorious climax to what seemed at the first calamity.
God gave the Victory to His people in such an unusual way that not even their heathen neighbours could fail to see His hand in it. The people of God just believed and they enemies were confused. If you only believe, God will cause confusion in the camp of your enemy and certainly give you victories this Year
