NEW LIFE FOR A NEW REIGNING

MEMORY VERSE: " Jesus answered and said unto him, verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God". John 3:3

CENTRAL TRUTH: everybody born into the world is a sinner and must come into the saving knowledge of Christ.

INTRODUCTION

God has always longed to have fellowship with man. He has much love for man, (man was made in His image Gen. 1:27). This love afforded man the privilege of having fellowship with God enjoying His divine presence. But that was until the fall in the Garden of Eden. With the fall, man fell out of favour with God, a great barrier come up between him and God. This result is that man become dead in sins and trespasses (Ephe.2:1). He (she) stared walking according to the course of this world (Ephe. 2:2).man started fashioning his life according to the lust of the flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind. His offspring also became "by nature the children of wrath' (Ephe. 2:3).
Also as a result to the fall, as well as the consequent loss of fellowship with God, darkness covered the whole of humanity. Man was without the presence of Christ and God in the world (Ephe. 2:12). Today natural man is still groping in darkness, confused as to how to regain that lost glory and fellowship without which he can never make it to heaven. To escape eternity in hell, he must regain that lost glory. He must undergo a spiritual transformation. But the power for such a transformation can not come from within us. Our self-righteouness (good behaviour/deeds) can never give us acceptance before God, since they are just like filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6). Only God can do it.

1. CALL TO A NEW LIFE

ISA. 1:18; 1-4; Matt. 11:28; In. 3:16; Her. 8:4 & 5; Rev. 3:20; 22; 27

It is the desire of God that all men return to Him in repentance (2peter 3:9) He has always been calling men and women to come to out of sin into the new life because of the important role He has designed for them in His programme of creation. God's promise is that "whosoever" come to Him shall in no way cast out (Jn.6:37). "He that covers his sin shall not prosper, but whose confesses and forsake them shall have mercy" (prov. 28:13).

2. CHARACTERISTIC OF A NEW LIFE

2 Cor. 5:17; Ps. 32:18; 1 John. 1:19; Eze. 18.21 Gal. 5:22-26

The men with a new life experience a complete change in character, direction, opinion,life-style and conduct.
His life is characterized by the following:-
- He has love of God and His commandments. Jn. 13:15
- He constantly studies and meditates in the word of God. Ps. 1:2; 2 Jos. 1:8
- He lives fruitful life. Gal. 5:22-25
- He lives a life without sin in the power of God. Jn. 3:9
- He is full of goodness and mercy. Gal.6:2-10
- He lives a life totally separated from sinful companions and the world because he is now dead to sin. 1Jn. 2:13-17; 1 Cor.6:14.
- He avoid evil speaking and jesting. Eph. 4:20; 5:4.
-He Rejoices in the Lord always, no matter the condition he finds himself. Phi.4:4.
- He prays always. These.5:17; Lk. 19:8
- He partakes in the spreading of the gospel to others. Mark. 16:15-17.

3. CONCRETE STEPS TO THE NEW LIFE

 Jn. 1:8-9; Ps. 28:13

This experience is purely by grace. There is no righteous or goodness of our own by which we can merit divine favour and acceptance (Eph. 2:5-8). To have a new life the seeker must:-
- Appropriate God's love for him as an individual. Jn. 3:16
-Acknowledge that he is a sinner. Ps. 15:5; Rm. 3:23.
- Repent, confess and forsake all his known sins. 1 Jn. 1:9; Prov. 28:13.
- Pray to God for forgiveness through the work of Jesus on the Cross of Cavalry and believe that he has been forgiven Ps. 32:1-13.

It is the new birth in Christ that ushers one into the newness of life and grants him favour in his presence world and in the world to come. Without experiencing this glorious work of salvation which has been provided through the vicarious death of Jesus on the Cross no man can see the kingdom of God. Jn. 3:3.
